What are FMAA and CMA Certifications?

FMAA (Financial Management Association Association)
The FMAA is an organization focused on enhancing financial education and professional development. Membership provides access to a network of financial professionals, resources, and opportunities to gain essential certifications, such as the Certified Financial Manager (CFM).


CMA (Certified Management Accountant)
The CMA certification is a globally recognized credential that demonstrates expertise in financial management and strategy. It is awarded by the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and signifies proficiency in financial analysis, decision support, and management skills.

How to Earn Your FMAA and CMA Certifications


  1. Join IMA


  2. Start by becoming a member of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA). Membership provides access to resources, study materials, and support for certification.

  4. Meet Eligibility Requirements


  5. For the CMA, you need a bachelor’s degree and at least two years of relevant work experience. Check specific eligibility criteria on the IMA website. The FMAA may have different requirements, so it's essential to verify those as well.

  7. Register and Prepare


  8. Once eligible, register for the CMA exam. Utilize IMA's resources, including study guides, online courses, and practice exams, to prepare effectively.

  10. Pass the Exams


  11. The CMA consists of two parts: Part 1 covers Financial Planning, Performance, and Analytics, while Part 2 focuses on Strategic Financial Management. Pass both parts to earn your certification.

  13. FMAA consists of General Accounting and Financial Management, Financial Statement Preparation and Analysis, Planning and Budgeting, Cost Management and Performance Metrics, and Professional Ethics. The exam will consist of 80 multiple-choice questions. Pass to earn your certification.
